Amanda Holden had hypnotherapy after her son's stillbirth

Prima Magazine - 7 September 2020

Amanda Holden has shared that she had to have hypnotherapy following the tragic stillbirth of her son Theo back in 2011.

Speaking to The Sun, Holden admitted that "There is not a day that goes by when I don't think about Theo, especially when a new school year begins."

"After we first lost him, Chris and I were diagnosed with PTSD so we went and had some therapy about that, as anyone would."

"Chris was terribly British about it, went once and was like, 'Right, I'm cured', whereas I continued, and then went to this amazing clinic run by a woman."

Hypnotherapy works by bringing you to a heightened state of awareness otherwise known as a trance, through guided relaxation and focused attention. This allowed Amanda to develop the courage and confidence to try again and she gave birth to her daughter Hollie the following year.

"It was to help me believe in my body again, to give me the confidence I could have another baby, and do it all again," she explained. "I just felt like everything was my fault, and I felt so responsible - what did I do wrong?"

Amanda went on to say that struggled with a lot of self blame. "I'd had a Filet-O-Fish from McDonald's the day before, and I panicked it was that or all kinds of things. I felt pretty neurotic. You really blame yourself."

"The sessions were about trying to make me have positive images about seeing a baby, and that it was going to happen. It really helped," she said.

There are a tremendous amount of emotions that any parents go through when their child is still born - loss, grief, anxiety, stress, low self esteem, blame. These strong emotions can have a dramatic effect on their well being and the possibilities to have another child. Amanda Holden dealt with these issues with hypnosis, which gave her the confidence to have another child. Hypnotherapy is very effective in treating stress and anxiety using relaxing hypnosis techniques by trained hypnotherapists at The Harley Street Hypnotherapy Clinic.
