Mother-of-two loses 5.5 stone in three months after being hypnotised into thinking she'd had gastric band surgery
Those who don't believe in the power of mind over matter should have a chat with super slimmer Sam Alderwish. For the mother-of-two claims her amazing five-and-a-half stone weight loss is down to having weight loss hypnosis and believing she'd had a gastric band fitted. Now Sam is half the woman she used to be - and she didn't go anywhere near a surgeon's knife.
Sam was shamed into shedding the pounds after an embarrassing encounter while shopping for an outfit for a wedding. She got stuck in the dress and the shop assistants had to cut her free with a pair of scissors. Humiliated Sam was desperate to lose weight. She had piled on the pounds after childbirth and was unable to lose her baby weight. At her heaviest she was a size 16 and weighed 13.5 stone.
She looked into weight loss surgery, but the cost was too high, and so she tried having a 'virtual gastric band' fitted through hypnotherapy. The results were astonishing, even surprising her own hypnotherapist. Despite only having the 45-minute 'procedure' in September, the 36-year-old teaching assistant, from Birmingham, dropped a staggering four dress sizes.
Her subconscious was tricked into believing she'd had major surgery - which involved bringing the sounds and the smells of the operating theatre into the hypnotherapy room - and made her think her stomach had shrunk to the size of a golf ball. Sam says that within hours of having the hypnotic gastric band, her stomach felt tighter - and she felt full after just a few mouthfuls of her dinner. She said: 'I was always very slim when I was younger, but after the birth of my second child, four years ago, I just couldn't shift the baby weight. 'I'd snack on chocolate to get me through the day, and finish off the kids' dinners as well as my own - and I was too exhausted to exercise once the kids had gone to bed.
'I knew I'd put on weight, but I didn't realise how big I'd got until I went to buy a dress to wear for a family wedding. 'I saw a beautiful outfit, and thought I'd be able to squeeze into it. But to my horror, I couldn't get it off. 'The girls working in the shop had to get a pair of scissors and cut it off me - I was mortified. My mum and sister-in-law, who I was with, thought it was hilarious, but I was so ashamed.
'When I went to the wedding a week later, a cousin who I hadn't seen for years made a comment about how much weight I'd put on. It was the final straw, and exactly the kick I needed to motivate myself. 'That night, I went on the internet and started Googling gastric bands. I know it seems drastic, but I'd tried to diet in the past, and never got anywhere.
'The only thing stopping me was the cost - and I started to look for a cheaper alternative - and I'm so glad I found out about the virtual surgery.' Sam had three sessions of hypnotherapy to address her eating habits before undergoing the 45-minute long virtual operation.
The Hypnotherapist, talked Sam through the 'operation' - playing sounds and even smells of a hospital into the hypnotherapy room. Sam said: 'After having the procedure, I immediately felt like my stomach was tighter. 'I went home that night and could barely eat any of my dinner - I just felt full. It was amazing. 'Obviously, logically, I know I haven't had surgery - but the procedure is so convincing, I just don't get very hungry now, and I want to eat healthier foods.
'The weight just fell off, and I'd gone from a size 16 to an eight in three months - even quicker than if I'd had the surgery for real.'
Hypnotherapy expert said: 'Sam had four sessions of hypnotherapy, and even I'm surprised how much weight she has lost.
'We started off by talking about her issues with food, before she had the hypnotic gastric band. 'I try to make the experience as realistic as possible for my clients - as it all helps the subconscious mind believe what I am telling them is happening is real.
'Lots of clients come to me saying they can physically feel that their stomach is smaller after the operation, and can even feel tugging in their stomach during the hypnosis. 'When you consider the risks and price of having gastric surgery, hypnosis is a very safe way to get the same benefits, if you really want to lose weight.' Sam added: 'I'm looking forward to my next wedding invite now - I can't wait for my family to see my new look.'
